I’m Kana Brown *waves*
Six years ago, I became an esthetician. A few years later, I opened The Beauty Room in the Haynie’s Corner Arts District of Evansville, Indiana. I wanted to create a space where you could find holistic skin care and wellness alternatives to the popular chemical-filled beauty products on every shelf. A place where you can receive personal, one-on-one services. Where, for an hour at a time, you can just be without worrying about the pressures of the outside world swirling around you. The Beauty Room is a sacred space where you can recenter, reconnect with and return to who you are.

I believe whether you live in a bustling big city, or a developing one, like me, every woman deserves to feel naturally beautiful. It’s why I focus on wellness and plant-based solutions for your skin care concerns and beauty regimen.

My Skin Care Story

I struggled with non-stop, full-face acne for years. So, I know personally how difficult it can be to feel at your best when your skin is at its worst. After graduating with Honors from the Salon Professional Academy Esthetics program, I relied on the knowledge I learned in school to launch my career in skin care and beauty. But ultimately, chemical peels, microdermabrasion and the like didn't resonate with me. I sought out classes and mentorships with skin care experts who shaped my holistic approach to skin care and beauty.

I’ve found much success locally and nationally, including a feature in Kentucky Bride and serving as a repeat guest on local media as a beauty expert. I’m the preferred makeup artist for House of White bridal boutique and my name appears at the top of the list for many talented photographers.

What is Holistic Skin Care?

Holistic skin care places an emphasis on bringing together all aspects of your human experience. That means what you eat, how you move and what thoughts circulate in your mind all play a part in your overall well being and how they show up on our largest organ, our skin. I’ve found it can be possible to achieve the skin you want without the harsh chemicals and mystery ingredients you don’t want while being mindful of our whole body. I’ve even partnered with Sixth Street Soapery to create a line of products that can nurture even the most tortured skin. I use this line, along with Laurel Whole Plant Organics, to bring my clients solutions made with the finest natural ingredients to breathe life back into their skin.

Why Evansville?

I’m asked this question often. I’m an advocate for “prospering where you're planted. Growing up, there was no place like the Beauty Room for me or many women of color to turn to for help. I would have loved to have had someone to offer me guidance and show me how to care for my skin and be a light for my community. I’m so honored I can now be that calming space for my community and my clients.

I support Evansville by serving as an ambassador for their “E is for Everyone” campaign. Also, in order to give local creatives a platform for displaying their talents, I began a magazine, LOVE IT! EVV. If you’re looking for ways to get involved, I welcome you to reach out to me to chat about ways we can work together. I will always strive to provide knowledge and love on all things beauty!
